Insurance Types
What Is Insurance?
Insurance is a way to protect yourself from big, unexpected costs. You pay a small amount of money called a Premium to an insurance company. In return, the company promises to help pay for certain problems, like a car accident or a medical bill. Think of it like a safety net that catches you when life throws a surprise.
Health Insurance
Health insurance helps cover the cost of doctor visits, medicine, and hospital stays. If you get sick or hurt, the insurance company pays part of the bill, so your family doesn’t have to pay everything out‑of‑pocket. Some plans require you to pay a little extra each time you see a doctor; this is called a Copayment.
Car Insurance
Car insurance is required in most places before you can drive on public roads. It protects you if you cause an accident, if your car is damaged, or if someone steals it. There are different levels of coverage:
- Liability – pays for other people’s injuries or property.
- Collision – helps fix your own car after a crash.
- Comprehensive – covers non‑collision events like fire or theft.
Home and Travel Insurance
Home insurance (often called Homeowner’s or Renter’s insurance) helps replace belongings if they are damaged by fire, water, or theft. It can also cover repairs to the building itself.
Travel insurance is useful when you go on a trip. It can reimburse you if a flight is canceled, if you lose luggage, or if you need medical help while abroad.
Understanding these basic insurance types helps you see how people protect themselves and their families from big financial surprises. Remember, the goal of insurance is to share risk so that no one has to face a huge loss alone.
