Animal Tracks

What Are Tracks?

Tracks are footprints left in mud, sand, or snow.
Animals make them when they walk, run, or hop.
We can learn a lot by looking at tracks.

Common Tracks You Might See

Deer

A deer leaves small, heart‑shaped prints with two toes.

Bird

Bird tracks are tiny three‑dot marks that look like a Y.

Rabbit

Rabbits have long, oval prints with a small back foot behind each front foot.

How to Find Tracks

  1. Look for soft ground near water or a forest path.
  2. Bend down and follow the line of prints.
  3. Notice the size and shape to guess the animal.

Remember to be gentle and never step on the tracks you are studying. Happy tracking!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
