Polar Animals

Arctic Animals

The Arctic is the cold north.

  • Polar Bear – a big white bear that swims and walks on ice.
  • Arctic Fox – a tiny fox with a fluffy white coat.
  • Walrus – a large sea animal with long tusks and whiskers.

Antarctic Animals

The Antarctic is the cold south, covered with ice.

  • Emperor Penguin – the tallest penguin; it huddles together to stay warm.
  • Seal – smooth‑skinned mammals that slide on ice and dive for fish.
  • Krill – tiny shrimp‑like creatures that many animals eat.

How They Stay Warm

  • Thick fur or feathers keep the body insulated.
  • A layer of fat called blubber stores heat.
  • Huddling together shares body warmth.
  • Some animals have special blood flow that keeps their feet from freezing.

These amazing animals live where it is very cold, but they have clever ways to stay cozy and safe.
