Illustration for Drawing Basics

Drawing Basics

Tools

You need a pencil, a crayon, or a marker. A plain piece of paper works great. Keep an eraser nearby in case you want to change something.

Lines and Shapes

Draw a straight line from one side of the paper to the other. Try a curved line that looks like a smile.
Next, make simple shapes: a circle, a square, and a triangle. These are the building blocks for pictures.

Fun Practice

Start with a happy face. Use a circle for the head, two dots for eyes, and a curved line for a smile.
Add a sun by drawing a big circle and then short lines around it.
Keep practicing. The more you draw, the more fun it becomes!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
