Compass Rose

What Is a Compass Rose?

A compass rose is a picture that shows directions.
It looks like a star with points that point to north, south, east, and west.
Kids use it to learn where things are.

The Four Main Directions

  • North – straight up on a map.
  • South – straight down.
  • East – to the right.
  • West – to the left.

These four points are the most important.

How to Use a Compass Rose

  1. Look at the picture on a map.
  2. Find the direction you need.
  3. Turn your body or a toy to face that way.

Now you can tell friends where the playground, the tree, or the house is!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
