Coordinates Simple

What Are Coordinates?

Coordinates are two numbers that tell you where something is on a map or a grid.
The first number goes left‑to‑right (the X line).
The second number goes up‑and‑down (the Y line).

How to Read Them

  1. Look at the first number. Move that many squares right (or left if it’s a minus).
  2. Look at the second number. Move that many squares up (or down if it’s a minus).
The spot you land on is the point’s location.

Fun Practice

  • Draw a 5 × 5 grid on paper.
  • Pick a pair like (2, 3). Start at the bottom‑left corner, go 2 squares right, then 3 squares up. Mark the spot.
  • Try (4, 1) and (0, 0).

Now you can find places on any grid using just two numbers!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
