What Are Digraphs?
A digraph is when two letters work together to make one sound. Let’s look at some examples. The Sh in ship or the Ch in chair are digraphs.

We can find digraphs in many words. Here are a few:
- Sh is in shoe and fish
- Ch is in chat and cheese
- Th is in thumb and bath
- Wh is in wheel and when
Practice Time
Let’s practice finding digraphs.
- Look at a word.
- Find two letters that make one sound.
- Say the word slowly and clap for each digraph you find. Try it with shark, thumb, and whale. You can find digraphs in many words!
