Number Bonds

What Are Number Bonds?

Number bonds are pairs of numbers that add up to the same total.
For example, 2 + 3 = 5 and 4 + 1 = 5.
The total (5) is called the Sum.
You can think of a number bond like a puzzle: two pieces fit together to make a whole.

How to Find Them

  1. Choose a number you want to reach, like 10.
  2. Pick one number that is smaller than 10, such as 6.
  3. Subtract: 10 − 6 = 4.
  4. The pair 6 + 4 makes the number bond for 10.

Try it with 8, 7, or any number you like!

Fun Practice

  • Clap The Bond: Say a number (e.g., 5). Clap once for the first part, twice for the second part, until the claps equal the total.
  • Draw A Bond: Draw a circle, write the sum inside, and draw two lines to the numbers that make it.

Number bonds help you add quickly and make math feel like a game!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
