Rhythm and Beat

What Is Rhythm?

Rhythm is the pattern of sounds that moves in time.
It can be fast or slow, loud or soft.
When you tap your foot or clap your hands, you are feeling the rhythm.

What Is a Beat?

A beat is the steady pulse that you hear in music.
Think of a heartbeat – it goes “thump‑thump‑thump.”
Every song has a beat you can count: 1, 2, 3, 4…

Play with Rhythm

  1. Clap your hands on every beat.
  2. Stomp your feet on the strong beats (1 and 3).
  3. Tap a drum or a table to make a simple rhythm.

Listening Fun

Listen to a song and try to find the beat.
Can you count “1, 2, 3, 4” while the music plays?
When you hear the rhythm change, notice how the feeling changes too.

Enjoy making music with rhythm and beat!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
