Tempo

What Is Tempo?

Tempo is how fast or slow music is. It’s like a car moving on the road. If it’s moving quickly, that’s fast tempo. If it’s moving slowly, that’s slow tempo.

Fast and Slow Music

Fast music makes us want to run and dance. It’s like playing outside with our friends. Slow music makes us want to walk or even sleep. It’s like reading a bedtime story.

How Do We Know the Tempo?

Musicians use special words to tell us how fast or slow to play. “Allegro” means fast and “Adagio” means slow. They also use numbers to help us keep the beat. It’s like counting how many steps we take when we walk or run.
