Trees

What Is a Tree?

A tree is a big plant.
It has a strong trunk, branches, and leaves.
Trees can be tall or short.
Some trees lose their leaves in winter, and some keep them all year.

Why Trees Are Important

  • Homes – Birds, squirrels, and bugs live in trees.
  • Air – Trees take bad air and give us fresh air to breathe.
  • Shade – On a sunny day, a tree’s leaves make a cool spot to sit.
  • Food – Apples, oranges, and many other fruits grow on trees.

How Trees Grow

  1. A tiny seed falls to the ground.
  2. When the seed gets water and sunshine, it sprouts a small sprout.
  3. The sprout grows a thin trunk and tiny leaves.
  4. Over many years, the trunk gets thicker and the tree becomes taller.

Take care of trees by planting new ones and never hurting the ones you see. They help us and all the animals around us.

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
