Tundra

Where Is the Tundra?

The tundra is a very, very cold place. It is found at the top of the world, near the North Pole, and on high mountains.

What Lives in the Tundra?

Many cool animals live in the tundra. You can find caribou, arctic foxes, and snowy owls there. Small plants grow close to the ground because it’s too cold for big plants. The ground is often frozen, which means it’s hard as ice.

Fun Facts About the Tundra

The tundra is cold because the sun is low in the sky. This means the sun’s rays don’t reach the ground very well. The soil stays frozen most of the year, and snow covers the ground for a long time. This makes the tundra a unique and interesting place to learn about.

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
