🕵️‍♀️ What Is Inference?

Introduction

When you read a story, sometimes the author doesn’t tell you everything. You have to Guess what’s happening by looking at clues. This guessing is called Inference. It’s like being a little detective in a book!

1. Finding the Hidden Clues

  • Words Are Clues – If a character shivers, you can guess it’s cold.
  • Pictures Help Too – A picture of a rain cloud means it might rain soon.

2. Using Your Detective Brain

Think about what you already know.

  • If you see a puppy wagging its tail, you can infer the puppy is happy.
  • If a character is holding an umbrella, you can infer it might be raining.

3. Asking “why?”

Ask yourself:

  • Why is the character sad?
  • Why did the hero run?

Your answers come from the clues in the story and from what you know about the world.

4. Imagine the Rest

After you make an inference, picture it in your mind.

  • Imagine the sound of rain when the umbrella appears.
  • Feel the warmth of a sunny day when the story says “the sun smiled”.

Did You Know? 🤔

The word “Inference” comes from the Latin word inferre, which means “to bring in”. Your brain brings in extra ideas to finish the story!

Conclusion

Great job, little detectives! Keep using your eyes, ears, and imagination to make smart guesses while you read. The more you practice, the better you’ll become at uncovering the hidden magic in every book. Happy reading and keep exploring!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
