🌈 How Rainbows Form
Have you ever seen a rainbow after it rains? Let’s discover how these colorful arcs appear in the sky!
The Recipe for a Rainbow
To make a rainbow, you need two things:
- Sunlight ☀️
- Water Droplets In The Air 💧
That’s why we see rainbows after rain storms when the sun comes out!
White Light’s Secret
Sunlight looks white, but it’s actually made of many colors mixed together! When sunlight enters a water droplet, something magical happens:
- The light bends (refracts)
- The colors separate
- They bounce inside the droplet
- They come out as a rainbow!
💡 Did You Know?
The colors of a rainbow always appear in the same order: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. Remember them with: “Roy G. Biv”!Make Your Own Rainbow
You can create a rainbow at home! Here’s how:
- Fill a glass with water
- Place it on white paper near a sunny window
- Put a mirror in the water at an angle
- Look for the rainbow on the paper!
Refraction: When light bends as it passes through water or glass, like how a straw looks bent in a glass of water!
Rainbow Facts
- You can never reach the end of a rainbow - it moves as you move!
- Double rainbows happen when light bounces twice inside water droplets
- Rainbows are actually full circles, but we only see half from the ground
Next time you see a rainbow, remember you’re seeing sunlight split into its beautiful colors!
