Illustration for Mixing Colors

Mixing Colors

Primary Colors

Red, blue, and yellow are called primary colors.
You cannot make them by mixing other colors.
These three are the building blocks for all other colors.

Mixing Two Colors

When you mix two primary colors you get a new color:

  • Red + Blue = Purple
  • Red + Yellow = Orange
  • Blue + Yellow = Green

You can use paint, crayons, or colored water to see the change.

All Together

If you mix all three primary colors, they make a brown or muddy color.
It shows that many colors can be created by just starting with three simple ones.

Play Time!

Try these fun ideas:

  • Paint a picture using only primary colors, then mix them to add new shades.
  • Guess the new color before you see it.

Mixing colors is a happy experiment. Have fun discovering new shades!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
