The Water Cycle: A Journey from Sky to Sea

Have you ever wondered where rain comes from? Get ready to follow Drippy, a brave little water droplet, on an incredible adventure!

Drippy’s Big Day

Drippy lived in the big, blue ocean. Splish, splash! She loved playing with the waves, but today was special. Today, Drippy was going on a journey through the water cycle! She was so excited!

Up, Up, and Away!

The sun shone down, warm and bright. Drippy felt a tingle. Whoosh! She started to float upwards. This is called evaporation! It’s like when you play outside and get sweaty. Your sweat turns into tiny vapor and floats away just like Drippy! She was becoming lighter and lighter as she turned into water vapor!

Cloud City

High in the sky, Drippy met other water vapor droplets. They huddled together, getting closer and closer. Brrr! It was getting chilly. All the droplets started to turn back into liquid water. This is called condensation. Have you ever seen water droplets on a cold glass of lemonade? That’s condensation too! The droplets joined to form a fluffy cloud. Some clouds are puffy and white like cotton balls. Others are dark and gray, ready to make rain! Did you know some clouds are so heavy they weigh as much as a hundred elephants?!

Plunge Back to Earth

The cloud grew bigger and bigger. Drippy and her friends were getting heavy! Suddenly, they started to fall. Plink, plink, plink! Drippy was rain! This is precipitation. Think of it like taking a shower, but instead of a showerhead, the cloud is doing the showering!

Back to the Ocean (Almost!)

Drippy splashed onto the ground. She landed in a puddle! A little girl wearing bright yellow rain boots came stomping through the puddle. Splosh! Drippy was carried along with the other raindrops, flowing into a stream. The stream led to a river, and the river flowed all the way back to… the ocean!

Drippy’s Home Again

Drippy was back in the ocean, safe and sound. She had traveled all the way from the ocean to the sky and back again! She was ready for her next adventure through the amazing water cycle. The water cycle is super important because it helps keep our planet healthy and full of water for everyone! And guess what? The same water that dinosaurs drank is still here on Earth, going through the water cycle over and over!

Key Takeaways:

  • Evaporation is when water turns into vapor and floats into the air.
  • Condensation is when water vapor turns back into liquid water and forms clouds.
  • Precipitation is when water falls from the clouds as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
  • Water is always moving in a cycle, from the sky to the sea and back again!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
