📅 What Is a Timeline?

A timeline is a line that shows when things happen. It helps us see the order of events—what came first, what came next, and what happened last. Think of it like a story that is drawn on a straight line!

1. A Simple Picture Line

Imagine a long road. At the left end you put “Morning” and at the right end you put “Night.” Along the road you can add pictures: a sun for breakfast, a school bus for school, and a moon for bedtime. This picture road is a tiny timeline of your day.

2. How to Make a Timeline

  1. Pick A Topic – maybe your birthday party or the life of a dinosaur.
  2. Find The Important Events – like “invite friends,” “blow candles,” “eat cake.”
  3. Place Them In Order on a straight line, from the first event on the left to the last event on the right.
You can draw little pictures or write short words. It’s like making a comic strip of time!

3. Timelines in Our Lives

We use timelines every day without noticing.

  • Family Tree – shows who was born first and who came later.
  • School Year – starts in September, has a summer break, and ends in June.

4. Timelines in History

Long ago, people made big timelines to remember important events, like when the first people walked on the Moon or when the first dinosaurs roamed. These help us learn how the world changed over many, many years.

Did You Know? 🤔

The oldest known timeline is a stone carving from 5,000 years ago that shows the order of the seasons!

Timelines turn time into a picture you can see and understand. Grab some paper, draw a line, and start placing your own events—past, present, or even imagined adventures! Exploring timelines helps you become a little time‑traveler, discovering how everything fits together. Happy timeline making!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
