Shooting Stars

What Are Shooting Stars?

A shooting star is not a star at all.
It is a tiny rock from space.
When the rock falls into Earth’s air, it gets very hot.
The hot rock glows and makes a bright streak across the sky.

When Can You See Them?

You can see shooting stars at night.
They are easiest to spot when the sky is dark and clear.
Sometimes many fall at once.
That is called a meteor shower.

How to Make a Wish?

When you see a shooting star, you can close your eyes.
Think of something you hope will happen.
Then whisper your wish.
Many people believe the wish will come true.

Fun Fact

Even though they look like magic, shooting stars are just space rocks traveling fast!

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
