Space Junk

What Is Space Junk?

Space junk is old and broken things that float around our planet. It can be old rockets, empty parts from satellites, or tiny bits of metal. These things move very, very fast in space.

Why Is Space Junk a Problem?

Space junk can hurt working satellites and even astronauts. If it hits something, it can break it and stop it from working. Space junk makes a big mess in space. It’s like having a big pile of trash in our backyard, but much worse.

How Can We Help?

We can all help keep space clean. Scientists are working on special ways to catch space junk with nets and robots. They’re also making new rockets that won’t leave as much junk behind. You can help too by learning more about space junk and telling your friends why it’s important to keep space clean.

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
