  2. Why Could Artists Paint More Realistic Shadows After Oil Paint Was Invented?
  3. Which Art Movement Broke Objects Into Geometric Shapes Like A Puzzle?

Hands‑on Experiment

Create Your Own “chiaroscuro” Drawing

  1. Gather a sheet of white paper, a black crayon, a yellow or orange crayon, and a small flashlight.
  2. Shine the flashlight from the side so the light hits the paper at an angle.
  3. With the yellow/orange crayon, draw a simple shape (a ball, a cup, or a fruit) where the light touches it.
  4. With the black crayon, shade the side opposite the light. Make the dark area fade slowly as it meets the light side.
  5. Look at your picture. The bright part and the dark part make the object look three‑dimensional—just like the chiaroscuro technique used by masters such as Caravaggio.

You can also try watercolors or different crayon colors to see how light changes the mood of your drawing.

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
