What Is a Landmark?

A landmark is a special place that people can see from far away.
It might be a tall building, a huge statue, a mountain, or even a bridge.
Landmarks help travelers know where they are and they often tell a story about a country’s history or culture.

Famous Landmarks Around the World

The Eiffel Tower – France

The Eiffel Tower is a giant iron tower in Paris. It was built over 130 years ago. Visitors can ride an elevator to the top and see the whole city.

The Great Wall – China

The Great Wall is a long stone wall that snakes over mountains and valleys. Soldiers built it to protect their land. Today, people walk along parts of the wall and imagine ancient times.

The Statue of Liberty – United States

A big green lady stands on an island near New York City. She holds a torch that shines like a welcoming light for people arriving by ship.

The Pyramids of Giza – Egypt

These are huge stone triangles that were built as tombs for kings called pharaohs. They have stood for more than 4,500 years!

How to Spot a Landmark

1. Look For Something Tall Or Unusual.
   A tall tower, a huge statue, or a mountain that stands out is often a landmark.

2. Notice The Shape.
   Many landmarks have a unique shape, like the curved arches of the Sydney Opera House.

3. Ask Locals Or Read A Map.
   People who live nearby can tell you why a place is special, and maps usually mark famous landmarks with little icons.

4. Take A Picture (If You Can!).
   Pictures help you remember the landmark and share its story with friends.
