Succession
What Is Succession?
Succession is the way nature changes over time.
First, a place might be empty or have only a few plants.
Then new plants and animals move in and grow.
Each step makes the area a little different.
How Succession Happens
- Pioneer Species – hardy plants like moss or grasses start the process.
- Soil Builds Up – dead leaves and roots turn into rich soil.
- New Plants Arrive – taller plants such as shrubs and trees can now grow.
- Community Matures – many animals and plants live together in a stable forest or meadow.
Why It Matters
- It restores places after fires, floods, or farming stops.
- It creates homes for many kinds of animals.
- It helps keep the Earth healthy by recycling nutrients.
Succession shows how life never stops moving forward.
