Chemical Reactions

Chemical reactions happen all around us.

What Is a Chemical Reaction?

A chemical reaction is when tiny particles called atoms rearrange to make new substances. The old substances disappear and new ones appear. Energy can be released or absorbed during the change.

Everyday Examples

  • Baking A Cake: heat mixes ingredients and they turn into a fluffy cake.
  • Rusting Iron: iron meets water and air, and slowly changes to rust.
  • Burning A Candle: wax turns into light, heat, and a little bit of gas.

Safety Tips

  • Always ask an adult before mixing chemicals.
  • Wear goggles or safety glasses if you use powders.
  • Work in a wellโ€‘ventilated area and keep flammable things away.

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
