Social Media Awareness
What Is Social Media?
Social media are apps and websites where people share pictures, videos, and messages. You can talk to friends, see what they are doing, and learn new things. Popular platforms for kids include YouTube Kids, TikTok (with parental permission), and school‑approved forums. Remember, not everything you see online is true.
Staying Safe Online
- Keep Personal Info Private. Don’t share your full name, address, school, or phone number.
- Use Strong Passwords. A mix of letters, numbers, and symbols works best.
- Ask An Adult. If a message makes you uncomfortable, show it to a parent, teacher, or trusted adult.
- Think Before You Post. Once something is online, it can stay forever.
Being Kind and Respectful
- Say Nice Things. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
- Don’t Spread Rumors. If you’re not sure a story is true, don’t share it.
- Report Bullying. Most apps have a “report” button for hurtful content.
- Take Breaks. It’s healthy to spend time offline playing, reading, or talking face‑to‑face.
Good Habits for a Healthy Balance
- Set a daily time limit (e.g., 30 minutes after homework).
- Choose activities you enjoy, like drawing, sports, or reading.
- Talk with family about what you see online.
- Remember: Real friends are those you can meet in person, too.
