What Is Watercolor?

Watercolor is paint that loves water.
Tiny colored powders mix with water to make bright colors.
When the water moves, the colors flow and blend on the paper.

How to Paint

  1. Wet your brush in clean water.
  2. Pick a color and dip the brush in it.
  3. Gently swipe the brush on the paper.
  4. Add more water to make the color softer or to mix colors together.

Fun Ideas

  • Paint a bright rainbow.
  • Make a splashy sea with blues and greens.
  • Draw a sunny sky with fluffy white clouds.

Clean Up

  • Rinse each brush until the water runs clear.
  • Pat the brushes dry on a towel.
  • Put the brushes and paints back in their place.

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
