Hemespheres

What Is a Hemisphere?

A hemisphere is half of the Earth.
Imagine an orange split into two pieces. Each piece is a hemisphere.

Where Are the Hemispheres?

The top half is the Northern Hemisphere.
The bottom half is the Southern Hemisphere.
The line that divides them is called the Equator.
If you look at a globe, the top part shows the Northern Hemisphere and the bottom part shows the Southern Hemisphere.

Why Do They Matter?

Different places have different weather, animals, and plants.
The Northern Hemisphere can be warm or cold, and the Southern Hemisphere can be warm or cold too.
Knowing which hemisphere you are in helps you understand the climate and the living things around you.

How Volcanoes Form

Volcanoes grow where tectonic plates collide or drift apart. Heat melts rock into light, buoyant magma that rises, cools, and hardens near the surface, building the cone layer by layer.
