What Is a Pyramid?

A pyramid is a big stone building that looks like a triangle with a flat bottom. The sides slope up to a point at the top. Ancient people built them a long, long time ago.

Who Built Them?

The ancient Egyptians built most of the famous pyramids. They were kings called pharaohs. Workers, not slaves, helped build the huge structures. They worked together like a big team.

How Were They Made?

First, workers cut big blocks of stone from nearby quarries. Then they moved the heavy stones on sleds and rollers. They placed each block carefully, one on top of another, making the shape rise higher and higher. Simple tools like hammers and wooden levers helped them.

What Is Inside?

Inside many pyramids is a special room called a burial chamber. The pharaoh’s treasures and a golden mask were placed there. Today, archaeologists study these rooms to learn about the past.
