Nouns and Verbs: the Word Heroes!
Every story, song, or chat needs two special helpers: Nouns and Verbs. They work together to make sentences fun and clear. Let’s discover how they help us talk about the world!
1. What Is a Noun?
A noun is a name. It can be a person, place, animal, or thing.
- People: mom, teacher, friend
- Places: park, school, beach
- Animals: dog, bird, fish
- Things: ball, book, pizza
Think of nouns as the “who” and “what” in a sentence.
2. What Is a Verb?
A verb shows action or being. It tells what the noun is doing.
- Action verbs: run, jump, sing, eat
- Being verbs: am, is, are (they tell how someone feels or what they are)
Verbs are the “do” or “be” parts of a sentence.
3. Nouns and Verbs Play Together
When we put a noun and a verb together, we get a complete idea.
- The Cat purrs. (cat = noun, purrs = verb)
- I draw A Picture. (I = noun, draw = verb)
You can swap nouns and verbs to make new sentences, like a game of word blocks!
4. Try It Out!
Pick a favorite animal and an action. Say it out loud:
- “The Frog Jumps!”
- “My Friend Laughs.”
Now draw a picture of your sentence. You just used a noun and a verb!
Did You Know?
The word “Run” can be both a verb and a noun!
- Verb: “I Run fast.”
- Noun: “I went for a Run.” Nouns give us the Who and What, while verbs give us the Do. By mixing them, you can tell any story you imagine! Keep listening to the words around you, and try making your own sentences every day. Happy word‑playing! 🚀
