What Is Foreshadowing?

What Does Foreshadowing Mean?

Foreshadowing is when a writer puts a tiny clue in a story.
The clue hints at something that will happen later.
It’s like a secret whisper that prepares the reader for the ending.

How Writers Use Foreshadowing

  • A Small Detail: A character might find a broken sword. Later, that sword helps defeat the villain.
  • A Line Of Dialogue: A friend says, β€œBe careful in the dark.” Soon, the hero walks into a dark cave.
  • A Picture Or Sound: The wind howls before a storm arrives in the story.

These clues make the story feel connected and exciting. When the clue shows up again, readers say, β€œAh, I saw that coming!”

How Volcanoes Form

From Magma to Mountain
