What Is Foreshadowing?
What Does Foreshadowing Mean?
Foreshadowing is when a writer puts a tiny clue in a story.
The clue hints at something that will happen later.
Itβs like a secret whisper that prepares the reader for the ending.
How Writers Use Foreshadowing
- A Small Detail: A character might find a broken sword. Later, that sword helps defeat the villain.
- A Line Of Dialogue: A friend says, βBe careful in the dark.β Soon, the hero walks into a dark cave.
- A Picture Or Sound: The wind howls before a storm arrives in the story.
These clues make the story feel connected and exciting. When the clue shows up again, readers say, βAh, I saw that coming!β
